Nice but Not Conveniently Located

Samarkand Plaza has many qualities. Rooms are of good size and equipped with a massage shower cubicle and a satellite TV with many foreign channels including two from Thailand though bottled water isn't provided. Its breakfast truly deserves a medal for its variety and its service a brownie point for effort. We asked the reception to arrange for us a private tour starting at 5.30 am. Not only did he manage to find a taxi for only 30 USD but, worried that we would have problems communicating with the driver, he also joined us on the four-hour trip and led us to some mosques rarely visited by tourists without asking for a tip.
However, for those without wheels, Samarkand Plaza is a regrettable choice as it's located almost 3 kms from the Registan and there's absolutely nothing within walking distance from the two-storey hotel.

Мы не пожалели, что остановились в этой гостинице. Очень красивый внешний вид, убранство номеров, да и до исторических мест города -как рукой подать. Очень удобный вариант для иностранных туристов.

Very comfortable hotel

The Samarkand Plaza hotel is a small hotel of 20 rooms or so. Recently built, it is a solid 4 star. It is made to look old so it has a lot of character. The location seemed a bit strange at first, but we soon realized because of the spread out nature of the city, there is no one perfect location. It is a bit pricey for Uzbekistan at $120 USD/night for a deluxe double but it is a very good value. The only downside is there is no real restaurant in or near the hotel, so one has to taxi to decent restaurants, but cabs are very inexpensive. The hotel staff is very helpful and gave us good recommendations on where to eat. We also decided to take the train from there to Tashkent, which turned out to be an interesting slice of local life. No chickens or anything like that, it is air-conditioned with quite comfortable seats and cost virtually nothing for a three and one/half hour trip in economy class (there are two higher classes, but they were full) and on-time. Also, the hotel staff graciously helped us find the proper carriage and seats and helped us schlep our bags on board.

Hotel has spacious, clean and convenient rooms. Friendly and helpful staff is included. If you need something just let them know about it and they will do it at once!
Hotel's location is a big advantage because it's close to seesights, especially square Registan.

As there are differents experiences with this hotel let see our experience.
Our room was the 202 and was very good, spacious, hall and a good bathroom. We had a satellite TV with the portuguese TV (!!??) and with lots of channels, as we found already in other places in Uzbekistan. In fact we had also a problem with the water and we had not hot water, but we said and in the second day the problem was solved and we got the impression that they knew already the problem. By the way the hot water is to the right side and not to the left as it use to be in our country. The internet Wifi is free and was working correctly in the room this means also slow as it use to be in Uzbekistan. The breakfast was very good and we noticed only that they had the TV very high and some customers asked to put lower or stop it but they put lower in Euronews.About swimming poool we didn't try and we didn't confirm if there are one or if it is a lake outside. In fact the phone number it is the same for sauna and pool. About location as we had a guide also no problem.
