Three times a good experience.

We have stayed three times for one night in the City Palace hotel, in the rooms 1011, 1206 and 1218. The lobby and the restaurant of the hotel are under reconstruction, but It gives no discomfort. Smooth and friendly check-in. Large and quiet rooms, decorated in a classic style, a little worn out furniture and carpeted floors. We have slept very well. The hotel is located a 10-minute walk from the Amir Timur square, where we used the metro stop . We have visited some restaurants, all within walking distance. During our stay we have seen only a few other guests, which makes that e.g. breakfast was quite comfortable. The choice we had on the buffet breakfast, was o.k. Summarized, a slightly dated hotel, but I certainly would recommend it.

Avarage and Uninspiring but Decent and Sufficient

Staying here was certainly not our trip's highlight. But it's not that bad. Location wise - it's good, close to Amir Timur Square/Park and there's also a very good Russian restaurant named Ёлки-Палки nearby. It's really good seriously (especially the Georgian soup)! I was glad that we didn't force ourselves to find Uzbek food because I would later have it many times anyway !

Anyway, back to the hotel, the room felt very Soviet (with a little bit of Uzbek decor). Nothing fancy. But at least the room heater/AC worked and there's hot water, so it's good enough for us!
The staffs weren't the friendliest but hey they didn't forget to give us a wake up call, plus call the taxi (and give direction), and packet us breakfast. So I guess, great job guys!

Standard city hotel.

Stayed here two nights.
The hotel looks smart and is only a 10min walk from Timur Square and close to a good local market.
The entrance lobby is spacious with a bar [drinks paid for in Soums only]. The staff appear friendly and try to be helpful but it was difficult to sort out any problems.
The bedroom was spacious with a comfortable bed although I had to make up the sheets myself! Good views over the surroundings. The air conditioning had a mind of its own. The bathroom had a lovely bath with lots of hot water.
Being on the 10th floor meant there was no traffic noise from the busy surrounding streets.
Breakfast was surprisingly good although the service was slow.

Good hotel in Tashkent

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights, at the beginning and at the end of the tour. The location is very convenient, you can walk to the Amir Timur square in about 10 minutes. There is also a bazaar 5 minutes away - they sell only cheap tourists trinkets so do your shopping in Khiva/Bukhara/Samarkand but I would recommend to shop here for dried fruit, almonds, pistachios etc. Really good quality and makes a nice present for home.

Both rooms I had were spacious, the second time on the top floor (15th?) with fantastic view of the square below. Overall, the rooms and the bathrooms were clean which is the most important thing for me, WiFi worked fine. The style of the hotel is a bit dated but then - this is Central Asia!

I didn't try the swimming pool or the room service so won't comment. The concierge service in the lobby and in the lobby bar was good - the only peculiar thing is that the drinks at the bar are quoted in USD or EUR but the payment is in the Uzbek sums so make sure that you do have local currency when paying. However, the food and the drinks are quite expensive so beware.

I give the hotel 4 stars as I actually liked it, it was better than I expected. I would stay here again.

Good Hotel Centrally Located

A smack in the middle of city Hotel, with good comfortable rooms. Its always better to take a above the 5th floor room facing the city side which gives a good view. However, be prepared for no early morning tea or coffee as the rooms do not have any tea or coffee maker. Also, the TV set is very primitive and with very limited channels. But the buffet B'fast is excellent, variety of fruits is superb and service best in class.

Decent place to stay in Tashkent

We stayed in the Hotel in a package tour from India. It's a decent hotel and very conveniently located. Rooms are average quality but clean and comfortable. Had a decent wifi. Many tour groups use the hotel it seems. Not too much variety in breakfast but enough to fill up tummy.

Quiet, comfortable and clean

Recently spent a week in this hotel and all-in-all it was absolutely fine. The hotel is situated in the city centre not far from the main square and the local Oloy market. The room was a very good size, comfortable bed, free wifi (though sometimes a bit slow), nice bathroom with plenty of hot water. Room was very clean - even a bit over the top with cleaners changing the bed linen and towels on a daily basis! I could definitely have done with a kettle and an iron - it is annoying to be totally beholden to (expensive) hotel services and such a small addition would make a lot of difference. Breakfasts were generally ok with a fair amount of choice. One plea, however, is don't keep pancakes under the same cover as the frankfurter sausages! The fried egg and omelet man, though, was excellent!
So, overall, a good experience.

Clean and comfortable

I spent 2 nights here and was pleasantly surprised as I'd read some mixed reviews. Room was quite large and well furnished with heavily Russian influenced dark wood furniture. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water available. There is free Wifi available in the room which is a bonus and the A/C worked well. There is a fixed hairdryer in the bathroom but no iron available. The only downside is that the bar in the lobby is very small with not much seating and they don't accept USD, which are accepted everywhere else, only Uzbekistan Som. Breakfast is buffet style and quite good although not a lot of choice.

I visit this hotel not the first time. The hotel has changed a bit and became a bit cleaner and more comfortable, but it need some renovation for the perfect look. Lobby of the hotel has changed due to the purchase of new furniture. Breakfast is also good.
Overall good hotel.

The hotel is conveniently located about 500m north of Amir Temur’s statue and the pedestrian zone with parks extending to Independence Square. Although the hotel is at the corner of busy Navoi Avenue and Amir Timur Street, our room on the 8th floor was very quiet. It was clean, and well equipped with very comfortable twin beds, a table, two chairs, a luggage rack, a tv set and a minifridge. The room was a bit sticky, and the aircon didn't help because it is permanently switched to "fan only". Too bad we had to go to the airport at 4:30 am already. They offered the choice between an early room service breakfast or a take away breakfast (we chose the latter). The personell at the reception was friendly, helpful and spoke English perfectly. The hotel was included in our two-week tour through Uzbekistan, therefore I don't know the rate we paid.

Nothing special - 02/2011

I'm sure there are a few travel agents in Uzbekistan who are getting nice cuts from recommending this place - with or without discount. The prices charged are certainly a bit over the top. Breakfast is nothing special but you can eat as much fuel as you want. Its a shame they don't concentrate on cleaning the table cloths rather than putting bows on the backs of chairs and flirting with guests.
However, it is central, the rooms are pretty good, clean and quiet and although nothing special, I'm not sure it deserves such bad reviews. If you can negotiate a big discount you are probably doing OK.

The rooms are spacious and organized, very comfortable bed, large bathroom, but try a wellness center with indoor swimming pool. Beautiful sauna, Turkish bath and Jacuzzi. Quiet area, close to the new concert hall, where was Maestro Morricone.
It is also a large dining room, carefully and with a great breakfast. Just a shame that they do not know what coffee is...

Hotel with a very good level, where we stayed two nights, one on arrival in Uzbekistan and one departure. Large comfortable rooms, nice bathroom. Good breakfast buffet. We enjoyed dinner, no better and no worse than most of the time in our country.
The place is not too far from the airport, which is obviously of interest in this city transit

Worth the money

Stayed twice at the Markaziy in September. First just one night before leaving town and then again two nights before going home.

The hotel has spacious room with comfortable beds. There is a good breakfast buffet and two bars in the hotel. Staff is helpful and tries to help with your queries. For the price I paid I would get a lot less in Europe so I am happy about my stays at the Markaziy.
