Description: This tour is an example of a hosted package tour, consisting of a combination of historical and natural components. In the following itinerary, only the highlights are shown. If necessary, the tour guide is always allowed to make changes in the program.
This spectacular trek in the Pamir region affords stunning panoramas of the huge peaks of the Pamir region - peak Communism, peak Korzhenevskaya, and peak Lenin. This is a country of contrasts: lifeless deserts, snow covered summits and deep river canyons, mountain tundra and turquoise lakes, tropical heat and severe polar cold. While trekking guests will have the chance to see the daily life of the local inhabitants of the Fergana and Alai valleys. This trek does not require special training.
Day 1: Arrival at Tashkent airport. Lunch. P.M. transfer to Samarkand (315 km, 4 hrs). Accommodation in hotel. Dinner. Overnight in Samarkand.
Day 2: Breakfast. City tour: the excavations and museum of the ancient city of Afrosiab, architectural complex Shakhi-Zindeh (11 - 15th cc.), mausoleum Guri Emir - Tamerlane's Tomb (14 - 15th cc.). Lunch. Continuation of city tour program: Museum of the city's foundation (incl. wall paintings from the 7th c.), Bibi-Khonum mosque, Bazaar, Medreseh Ulughbek (15th c.), Medreseh Shir-Dor (17th c.), Medreseh Tilla-Kori (17th c.), Ulughbek Observatory. Dinner. Late evening transfer to railway station for the trip to Fergana.
Day 3: Arrival in Fergana (Margilan railway station). Breakfast. Transfer by truck via Haiydarkan village to the Alaudin River valley. Camp on the riverbank (2500 m). Lunch. Preparation for trekking. Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Day 4: Breakfast. Hike along a good trail to the Upper Alaudin River. Lunch. Afternoon ascent to the Alpine zone (10 km, 6 hrs). From camp, marvel at magnificent views of the mountains (3480 m, + 950 m). Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Day 5: Breakfast. Crossing of the Kumbel pass (3958 m). Descent to a small lake for to rest. Lunch. After crossing an easy pass we descend to the Ikkidavan River valley (12 km, 7 hrs, + 450 m, - 900 m). Camp (3050 m). We will enjoy attractive views of the Alaiskiy range and Kichik Ailama Peak (5044 m). Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Day 6: Breakfast. Walk to the Upper Ikkidavan River. Lunch. A good path leads us along the right bank of the river through juniper groves to the Ikkidavan glacier (8 km, 5 hrs, + 650 m). Camp near the glacier (3700 m). Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Day 7: Breakfast. Crossing of the Alaiskiy range and ascent to Alaudin pass (4296 m) across a snowy slope. Lunch. This pass is the watershed divide between the two biggest rivers in Central Asia - The Syrdarya and Amudarya. Easy ascent on the Alaudin glacier (8 km, 6 hrs, + 300 m). Camp (400 m). From the camp we are rewarded with an attractive panorama of glaciers and the greatest peaks of the Alaiyskiy range. Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Day 8: Breakfast. Descent on a good path to the wide valley of the Koksu River. River Crossing (9 km, 4 hrs, - 500 m). Lunch. Camp on the right bank of the river (3500 m). Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Day 9: Breakfast. Ascent to one of the biggest glaciers of the Alaiyskiy range - The Abramov glacier (length - 10 km, area - 25 sq. km) (5 km, 7 hrs). Accommodation in the "Abramov Glacier" Mountain Weather Forecasting Station: (3780 m). Lunch. After lunch, an excursion to the weather station to meet with the staff. Dinner. Overnight in the station.
Day 10: Breakfast. Rest day. Lunch. Excursions to glaciers. Dinner. Overnight in cottages.
Day 11: Breakfast. We ascend via glacier to the Bokbash pass (4330 m) and gain spectacular views of the Pamir ranges - Zaalaiskiy, Peter the Great and peaks Lenin (7134 m), Korjenevskoi (7105 m) and Communism (7495 m). Afterwards we descend the snowy slope of a small glacier to the Alaiyskaya valley and Kuturgan River (10 km, 5 hrs, + 550, - 930). Lunch. Camp near a glacier (3600 m). Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Day 12: Breakfast. Descent on the grassy slopes along the Kuturgan River to settlements of Kyrgyz shepherds. We will observe the daily way of local life and rest in Kyrgyz yurts. Lunch. Continue descending on a good trail along the right bank of the Oksu River canyon (18 km, 4 hrs). Camp on the riverbank, not far from the road (2800 m). Dinner. Overnight in tents.
