Tajikistan Visa

Every year, Tajikistan updates its list of countries whose citizens are allowed to enter without a visa. While some tourists may stay indefinitely without a visa, others can stay for either 90 or 30 days. There are also special categories of visitors who enjoy open borders. If your country isn't included in the visa-free list, you'll need to secure an e-visa, a visa on arrival, or a traditional visa through an embassy. Read on for more details.

If you cannot enter Tajikistan visa-free, you might be eligible for a visa on arrival, available at Dushanbe and Khujand airports. You need to complete an application form on the Tajikistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) website and pay a 5 USD fee at least a week before your departure. The MFA will respond with confirmation or refusal within 1-5 days. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be required to pay an additional visa fee of 35 USD.

Visa on Arrival Eligibility

Citizens of the following countries can obtain a visa on arrival at Dushanbe and Khujand airports:

Algeria
Brunei Darussalam
Israel
Lebanon
Morocco
Senegal
South Africa
Tunisia
Venezuela
Vietnam
Stateless persons, former citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan

If you plan to enter through a land border, you should apply for an electronic visa instead.

Electronic Visa

If your country isn't listed for visa-free or on-arrival entry, you can apply for an e-visa through the official portal www.evisa.tj. After paying the fee of 52 USD, which is accepted through Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Union Pay, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will review your application. If approved, you will receive the visa electronically, which should be printed out. The e-visa is valid for 90 days, allows a stay of up to 60 days, and is single-entry. It cannot be extended, and fees are non-refundable if denied.

Visa through an Embassy

If your country is not eligible for any of the options listed and is not on the e-visa portal, you can apply for a visa at any Tajik embassy or consulate. Consular fees start at 25 USD and vary by nationality and embassy location.

Standard Visa Requirements:

  • Visa support (invitation)
  • A valid passport with two blank pages, valid for at least 6 months beyond the visa expiration date
  • Two copies of the visa application form
  • A color photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm)
  • Receipt of payment for the state duty and consular fee
  • If visiting the GBAO (Gorno-Badakhshan, officially the Badakhshan Mountainous Autonomous Region) or Pamir regions, a letter of request for permission is required.

This comprehensive approach ensures you're informed of all entry options into Tajikistan, depending on your nationality and entry points.
