Yurt Camp at Darvaza Gas Crater
The Darvaza Gas Crater Yurt Camp offers additional comfort and a wider range of experiences during your visit to Turkmenistan's hottest attraction. Located just 500 metres from the blazing crater - a 5 minute walk - these yurts embody the national colours and the essence of nomadic life in the desert, allowing you to admire Darvaza throughout the night.
Many tourists arrive at the Darvaza crater at sunset to enjoy the fiery spectacle for an hour before packing up for the return journey to Ashgabat or Dashoguz, usually arriving at their hotels closer to midnight. However, those who have booked a place in the yurt camp can stay until most of the visitors have left, enjoying the raw power of nature in a quiet, secluded setting.
The yurt camp at Darvaza consists of 12 yurts, built in the traditional Turkmen style and equipped with beds. There are several toilets and showers nearby for your convenience. The dining area has two zones: an indoor area for cooler or cloudier days, and a summer café with tables and beds under reed canopies. There's also a paddock for horses and camels, adding a touch of rural tourism to your stay.
An added benefit of staying at the yurt camp is the chance to see the Darvaza crater at dawn. Those willing to get up early will be treated to a magical sight - the bright yellow light against the blue dawn will gradually fade to grey and in a fleeting moment the Darvaza crater will turn into an ordinary hole in the ground.
