Two-Day Bukhara City Tour
Tour Details
2 days
from $130 / per person
Description
Bukhara is a key stopping point in Uzbekistan for local and foreign tourists alike, and with good reason. While Samarkand boasts of splendid structures arrayed in color, Bukhara has delightfully succeeded in preserving the atmosphere of ages long past. Inside Bukhara’s Old City, visitors can wander the narrow, dusty alleyways at leisure and marvel at the domes where Silk Road goods were bought and sold, almost forgetting that a 21st century world exists beyond the mud-brick walls that surround you.
A two-day city tour of Bukhara will submerge you in this ancient city as you get an in-depth look at the city’s historically significant sights. This tour will take you not only to the city’s most beloved landmarks, but also beyond the usual tourist attractions to some of the sights that can only be reached by vehicle.
Program
Begin exploring Bukhara on a walking tour with your local guide. Enjoy your private tour of the Old City’s most impressive sights:
- The Lyabi-Hauz ensemble holds the largest artificial reservoir of medieval Bukhara (14-17th centuries), and is hands-down the city’s most iconic spot. This ensemble includes some of the largest madrassahs in Bukhara, the Khanaka and Kukeldash Madrassahs (16th century), and the Nadir Divan Beghi Madrassah (16th century).
- The Magoki-Attori Mosque is the oldest mosque in Bukhara (12th century) and considered a masterpiece of Bukharin architecture. Walk through the four Trade domes (15-16th century): Toqi Zargaron, Toqi Sarrafon,Toqi Telpak Furushon and Tim Abdulla Khan. These domes hold historical significance as important trade centers along the Silk Road, and today you can join your traveling predecessors in purchasing carpets, jewelry, fabrics, ceramics and other handmade souvenirs inside these domes.
- Continue your city tour of Bukhara to the Poi Kalyan Ensemble (12-16th centuries), consisting of the Kalyan Minaret, Kalyan Mosque, Amir-Allimkhan Madrasah and Miri-Arab Madrasah. See an active madrassah, one of the most esteemed Islamic universities of ancient times and a ‘Tower of Death’ minaret where criminals were formerly executed.
- Explore the relatively untouched Ulugbek Madrasah (15th century) and Abdulazizkhan Madrasah (17th century), where many of the long-abandoned living quarters and corridors have remained crudely intact through the passing of time.
- Head to the Ark Fortress (4th century), the ancient center of Bukharin statehood and currently home to a small museum. View the surrounding city from its impenetrable walls and stand in awe of the still-intact Throne Room of the Bukharin emirs.
- Stop by the Bolo-Khauz Complex, consisting of an artfully decorated 18th century mosque, a minaret and reservoirs that once provided water for the entire city.
- End your tour at the Samanids Mausoleum (9-10th centuries), the most ancient brick building in Central Asia, and the Chashma Ayub Mausoleum (Saint Job’s Source, 14th century), once considered a sacred site where a prophet of old caused clear springs of healing water to burst forth from the earth.
Tour duration: approximately 6 hours.
Optional Activity:
The Bozori Kord Hammam was built in the 14th century and has been in regular use ever since. The hammam experience may be one of the most memorable ones of your trip as you immerse yourself in centuries-old traditions and experience the "real Bukhara". The cost is 20 USD per person, and you should plan for approximately 1 hour at the bathhouse.
Have a leisurely breakfast and begin continuing your Bukhara city tour to the following locations:
- Chor Minor ("Four minarets"), an unusual madrassah built by Niyazkul in the 18th century, whose four minarets are said to reflect the four major world religions of that period.
- Drive to the Emir's Summer Residence, Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa (19th century) This is a unique site boasting of a blend of Oriental and Russian architecture.
- Continue your drive to the Bakhautdin Naqsband Mausoleum, an ensemble dedicated to the founder of the Sufi Order "Naqshbandia". At this Memorial Complex of Naqshbandi, you can tour a mausoleum, mosque, pond, and museum.
- Stop at the Chor-Bakr Necropolis, (City of the Dead,10th century), ancient burial grounds which were developed into a memorial complex in the 1500s.
Tour duration: approximately 4 hours.

Reviews
Our tour guide Nusrat in Tashkent was also very good and a very jolly and knowledgeable person.
The guide Temur today in Samarkand was very good and very friendly. We are looking to our tour on Friday.
Thanks the guide Jahongir in Khiva arrived and was very good thank you.
The guide Maksad in Bukhara was also very good and a lovely person.
Thank you very much for organizing our tours. We had a great time in Uzbekistan!
Guide was knowledgeable and driver was good. I enjoyed the museum. Food at restaurant was excellent. It was good to see Tajikistan but I might add few more things to the day trip. Guide was telling me how some beautiful lakes are just a short drive. I would add a lake visit to the day trip, by leaving hour earlier for pick up. Mountains were quite beautiful.
I have very much enjoyed my trip to Uzbekistan. History, people and culture are amazing and I am glad the UZBEKISTAN government has opened up the country. Nice to see locals getting jobs and making your economy better.
Wonderful day yesterday. Thanks very kindly. Guide Vazira was excellent and she spoke good English. Learned a lot of information about Bukhara and saw amazing architecture.
Not sure if tour companies give feedback to government tourism board but I would suggest the government implement a day pass for all the sites in Bukhara and Samarkand. It’s quite difficult to constantly pay for each historical location. Give foreigners one price say $25 USD to visit everything in Bukhara and same price in Samarkand. Each pass is valid for three days. Thanks again for everything.
Two day Tour Bukhara and Samarkand. We are writing to thank you for the tour.
Your country is beautiful and we hope to be back before too long.
The guides were all very good and everything was well organized.
Thank you very much. We will recommend your services to our friends.
This is to say Thank you for all the Wonderful service from all your people and the warm reception that we had from Uzbek People all over at Tashkent, Bukhara and Samarkand. We enjoyed our stay and learned a lot about the customs, Monuments, Culture, and lifestyles. It was my dream to see all these places that we have been reading about in our history books, specially Bukhara and Samarkand. It was a revelation to know about the Romance of Farhod and Shirin took place here, as we have been hearing about these legendary stories.
Highlights of the Tour:
- Dinner at Registan Restaurant at Samarkand. Great Food, Hospitable Hostess, both the mother and daughter.
- Experience at Hammam at Bukhara. Just took me back to 17th Century.
- Timur's Mausoleum. We cud feel that the Humayun's Tomb in Delhi was Inspired by this architecture.
- All the Beautiful People, it was as if God has created all the best looking people at Uzbek only, it is not that we Indians are not good looking but the beauty was in abundance.
- Cleanliness on the Roads.
Thanks again for everything.
Normally I am a lone traveler, and have explored most of Central Asia already, but Uzbekistan presented many different issues, so came to you for help. You and your company have provided excellent services and made a great holiday possible and ensured that the flow was completely smooth. Some points deserve special mention:
Firstly, Mr. Amal. You provided a great itinerary, and accepted all the changes that I gave you, with my travel partner (s) changing and dates moving almost on a daily basis, in a very professional, as well as easy going manner. Thank you for the itinerary the planning, the visa, and all that went with it, and for making ALL the transfers, meeting, greeting, tours and hotels very smooth. Despite the fact that I made my own arrangements in Tashkent as I was able to use a hotel promotion that you could not compete with, you easily integrated this into the plan.
Mr. Izzat, the driver in Tashkent. He greeted my partner who arrived a couple of days before me and looked after her way beyond anything that I could have expected or have paid for. He acted way above what could have been expected from a professional point of view or of a driver. Please pass on my thanks. All the way through he was early for each collection, looked after us through the doors of every destination, advised where to go in free time, and provided great support. I have hired many drivers throughout the world in my professional and personal travels, and have never met one as professional, easy going, or considerate. I have great shame that I could not raise any cash at the end in Tashkent, due to the banking system there to 'tip' him, may I send something to you to pass along?
Samarkand, Both the driver, and the guide as well as the hotel were great. They professionally showed us around, with the agenda, and adjusted easily to our needs, and looked after us well, despite it being very cold, making great urgency to get through the places to see. The great pity is that we did not have enough time there due to our plans to really take it all in.
Bukhara, Regrettably, I cannot remember the name of the guide! But from the collection from the station, to dropping us off 2 days later, she completely looked after us, took us to where we wanted to go throughout. We had an issue with onward travel plans and adjusted easily to helping us with this for however long it took, being completely flexible, and enormously helpful, whilst keeping great sense of humor. Again, this is far beyond anything that we could have asked for from a guide. Please pass along again our thanks.
The trains were great, and well organized by yourself. It has been a long time since I took a long train ride, and it was fun. We managed an 'upgrade' to get sleep on the way back, and had some fun journeys, that would not have happened if we took car transfer, or even the flight back from Bukhara.
The entire trip was excellent value for money, and completely well organized. I would probably have paid a little more for higher hotels, but it was all pretty good.
I will use your service again should we return to Uzbekistan in the future, there is more to see, and more time is needed than we had available in this trip. However, it will be in the summer! I will of course recommend you wherever I can. Thank you again for providing a great, well organized, and reasonably priced holiday!
We enjoyed very much our trip to Uzbekistan and would first like to thank you and your team for the excellent organization of all the details. Some specific comments:
Especially we would like to convey to you how very pleased we were with the service and friendship of our driver, Gemma. He was always very helpful and thoughtful, and he was good-natured and within a few days we felt a friendship with him. I hope that you will especially communicate to him how much we appreciated his hospitality and courtesy (and he was also a very good driver and guide!).
The tour guides (i.e., in Samarkand and in Bukhara) were also very good; they were knowledgeable and spoke excellent English and were very courteous.
Also, Rustam, in the mountains, was an excellent guide and we enjoyed his stories about Uzbekistan history and culture. You are very fortunate to have Gemma and Rustam on your team. The horseback riding trek was amazing! … perhaps our favorite day, and you should Maybe give more highlight to this horseback riding trek on your website.
The hotels (Samarkand, Bukhara) were fine. They were clean and comfortable. So, in summary, we enjoyed our trip to Uzbekistan, and I would like to thank you personally for the hard work and commitment in planning and making all of the arrangements. I would not hesitate in recommending OrexCA to other travelers/tourists. I look forward to returning to Uzbekistan someday
In September, Ruth and I made a great trip to the Silk Road in Uzbekistan. It was a great adventure for us especially for me since I always wanted to retrace Marco Polo's travels. The cities of Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand are real jewels and bring the stories of 1001 nights to life. The Mosques and Madrasassah's are wonders of Islamic architecture and rival the Taj Mahal in India.
Antonio and I have been very happy with the trip. We have liked a lot of Uzbekistan. Maybe the less tourist area is Fergana but interesting. The city that but I have liked it is Bukhara, is a very welcoming city and their very kind people.
We have been very satisfied of the guides and the one that less we have liked it has been that of Khiva. Mohamed (Bukhara) and Valentina and Larisa (Samarkanda) especially. Bukhara and Samarkanda have become trained very well. Firat (driver) he is a great professional. It is very pleasant and competent.
If some friends ask us for the trip to Uzbekistan, I won't have doubt in putting them in contact with OrexCA.com.
