Description

Discover the stunning beauty of mountainous Tajikistan on a Seven Lakes Day Tour from Samarkand. Each of these scenic alpine lakes has its own name and character. Their waters shimmer in ever-changing hues - from bright blue and turquoise to ultramarine and deep purple - shifting with the movement of the sun.

Along the journey, you’ll pass through traditional villages, where you can observe the daily life of Tajik families and hear stories and legends handed down through generations. The route ascends from the lowest lake, situated at 1,640 meters above sea level, to the highest at 2,400 meters.

This Seven Lakes Day Tour from Samarkand reveals breathtaking views of the lakes framed by the Fann Mountains and offers a rare glimpse into the harmony between nature and culture in one of Central Asia’s most secluded corners.

Program

Tour Itinerary:

Samarkand – Seven Lakes in Fann Mountains – Samarkand:

A driver will meet you at your Samarkand hotel for a transfer to the Uzbekistan-Tajikistan Jartepa border crossing (40 km, 1 hr). After passing through customs on both sides, your Tajik guide and driver will meet you at the border and drive to the Seven Lakes (Haft Kul, 65 km, 1.5 hrs). There will be a short stop on the way at Sarazm, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and sprawling ancient city founded around 3500 BC on the bank of the Zeravshan River.

Each lake has its own name and color. You’ll stop at each one, about 10–15 minutes’ drive apart, to take photos and learn about its unique characteristics: Lake 1 – Nezhigon (Eyelash), Lake 2 – Soya (Shade), Lake 3 – Hushyor (Vigilance), Lake 4 – Nofin (Umbilical Cord), Lake 5 – Khurdak (Baby), Lake 6 – Marguzor (Meadow), Lake 7 – Hazorchashma (Thousand Springs), located at 2,400 meters above sea level.

Stretch your legs with a 30-minute hike between the sixth and seventh lakes, the latter of which lies along a small river. After a picnic lunch, enjoy a stroll through a nearby village and take photos along the way. After visiting the Seven Lakes, drive back to the Jartepa border, pass through customs, and return to Uzbekistan. A driver will meet you to complete the drive to Samarkand.

Duration: 9-10 hours.

Note: Due to weather conditions, this tour is available only from April-October.

Tajikistan visa requirements: Many countries qualify for visa-free entry or can apply for an e-visa.
